Pitches, holds, cuts & releases
Track every song from pitch to hold to cut to release on its Pipeline tab, with follow-up reminders for holds and release details from Spotify.
Every song has a Pipeline tab: a timeline of who it was pitched to, who's holding it, who cut it, and when and where it came out. The song's status (Unreleased, On hold, Cut or Released) follows from that timeline, so it's always the latest truth and you never set it by hand.
Log a pitch, hold, cut or release#
- Step 1: Open the song and choose the Pipeline tab.
- Step 2: Choose Log pitch, Log hold, Log cut or Log release. A pass, releasing a hold and marking a hold expired are under the ⋯ menu next to them.
- Step 3: Fill in what you know (the artist, who placed it, the date, the version) and choose Save. Artists, labels and contacts you name are kept under Stakeholders.
- Pitch
- The song, and the exact version, sent to an artist or an A&R contact. Send it as a Catalyst share link and the pitch shows whether it was played. See Views, plays and downloads.
- Hold
- An artist reserving the song: who placed it, the date, 1st or 2nd hold, exclusive or not, and a Follow up by date. A song can carry several holds at once.
- Cut
- The artist recorded the song: the date, the producer and the version that was pitched. Saving a cut offers Review splits (or Fix splits if they don't add up), the moment they matter most.
- Release
- The song came out: release title, artists, label, date, type (single, EP or album), UPC, artwork and links. One release can include several of your songs.
Hold follow-ups and reminders#
Everyone in the workspace gets a notification and an email when a hold's follow-up date is coming up, and again once it has passed. An owner chooses how many days ahead in Settings → Pipeline. A hold stays active until it's released, expires, the artist passes, or the artist cuts the song.
In the Library, the Filters dialog's Pipeline group finds songs by who's holding them, by label, by hold follow-up date and by release date, and two default views, Active holds and Holds expiring this week, sit in the sidebar. The Dashboard's Holds & releases pane shows holds to follow up, recent cuts and releases coming out.
Release details from Spotify#
When you log a release, choose Fill from Spotify. Catalyst looks the recording up by its ISRC (or its title and artist) and lists the matches; choose Use to fill in the date, label, artwork and links. Nothing is saved until you check it and choose Save.
Only the details of released music (ISRC, title and artist) are sent to Spotify, never audio or anything unreleased.
Pipeline reports#
Built-in reports turn the timeline into spreadsheets: holds per writer, pitch → hold → cut by writer, cuts and releases per year, and releases by label. See Reports & exports.
