Your Library
Search the whole catalog, narrow it with filters for writer, status, BPM and key, and keep the views you use as one-click lists in the sidebar.
The Library is every song in your workspace in one fast table. Open it from the sidebar or press g then l. Each row is a song (a work); its artwork, length, BPM and key come from the song's primary version, the recording you've chosen to represent it.
Search#
Type in the search box at the top of the Library (or press /). Search looks at song titles and alternate titles, writer names, lyrics and notes. It matches the start of words and forgives small typos, so you don't need the exact title.
To search from anywhere, press ⌘ K (or Ctrl K on Windows). The command palette shows the best matching songs and writers as you type, jumps to any page, and offers Search the library for… to open the full results.
Filters#
Filters sit in a row of chips under the search box. Click a chip to choose values; the list updates as you click. Filters combine, so “Writer: Ava Lane” + “Status: Unreleased” + “BPM 90–110” shows exactly that.
- Status
- Unreleased, On hold, Cut or Released.
- Writer, Publisher
- Type to narrow long lists. Matching ignores accents, and names that start with what you typed come first.
- PRO
- ASCAP, BMI and SESAC up front; Show all for the rest.
- Version type
- Songs with a Work Tape, Demo, Master, Instrumental and so on.
- Incomplete
- Splits that don't add up to 100%, songs with no writers, or songs with no audio. Your cleanup list.
- DOC
- Date of creation, as a range.
- BPM
- A tempo range, inclusive at both ends. See below.
- Key
- One or more keys, and major or minor.
- Audio
- Has audio, or no audio yet.
- Has master
- Songs with (or without) a master recording.
- Controlled
- Songs where your company controls at least one writer's share (or none).
Clear removes every filter. Filters live in the page address, so you can bookmark a filtered Library or paste it to a teammate.
Find songs by BPM and key#
Catalyst detects BPM and key from the audio when a file is added (see Audio analysis). To use them:
- Step 1: Open the BPM chip and enter a minimum, a maximum, or both. 90 to 110 includes songs at exactly 90 and 110.
- Step 2: Open the Key chip and pick one or more keys, then major, minor or either.
- Step 3: BPM and Key columns appear in the table while either filter (or a BPM or key sort) is on.
Sort, page and choose columns#
- Sort (right of the filters): Recently updated, Title A–Z, DOC (newest), BPM, Key (C → B), Least played by you, or Relevance while you're searching. Songs with no value for the sort always stay at the end.
- Columns: show or hide columns from the Columns menu above the table. Your choice is remembered in this browser.
- Pages: 50 songs per page by default; switch to 25, 100 or 250 at the bottom. Play all and row selection act on the current page.
Saved views#
A saved view is a filter you use often, kept in the sidebar under Library. It stays live: songs that match later appear in it automatically.
- Step 1: Set up the search, filters and sort you want.
- Step 2: Choose Save view. Catalyst suggests a name from your filters; press → to accept it or type your own.
- Step 3: Tick Share with the whole workspace if your team should see it too. Otherwise it's only yours.
Prefer a fixed list? Save as playlist takes a snapshot of the current view (up to 500 songs, in the view's order) that won't change as the catalog does. See Playlists & share links.
Default views#
Every workspace starts with six ready-made views under Library in the sidebar. Opening one shows its name and a one-line description, and its filters appear in the chip row, so you can see exactly what it does and adjust it.
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Hidden gems | Songs with audio that you've played least, never-played first. For rediscovering songs nobody has listened to in a while. |
| Ready to pitch | Unreleased songs with complete splits and a Master or Full Demo version. |
| Fresh | Written or added in the last 30 days. |
| Needs attention | Incomplete splits, no writers, or no audio. |
| Uptempo | 120 BPM and faster, fastest first. |
| Slow burners | 80 BPM and slower, slowest first. |
“Played” means you listened for at least 30 seconds (or half of a song shorter than a minute), so skimming doesn't count. Owners turn views on or off for the whole workspace in Settings → Library views.
Folders#
Folders are hand-picked collections: a writer's priority songs, a sync brief, anything you'd otherwise keep in a spreadsheet tab. Select songs in the Library and choose Add to folder, or add a song from its own page. Folders appear under Library in the sidebar; deleting a folder never deletes the songs in it.
Select songs and act on them#
Tick the checkbox on a row (or press x on the highlighted row) and a bar appears with actions for everything selected, such as Add to playlist and Add to folder. Use j and k to move through rows and Enter to open one. On a phone, tap a song's ⋯ menu and choose Select.
